4. How long does it normally take to download a movie?

On average, with a 56.6 Kbps dial-up modem, a 2 hour movie would take about the same time to download as any 700 MB file. The time taken is directly proportional to the length and the file size of the movie you are downloading. With a cable/DSL or any other broadband connection, it should take significantly less time. This dependent on your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) connection speed since different ISPs offer different connection speeds.

12. How do I install programs and games (what's a ZIP file)?

Installations vary from one program to another. Most programs have built-in installers. These built-in installation files typically end with an .EXE. By simply double-clicking on the installer' icon and following the instructions, you will be guided through an easy installation process. Other downloaded files are compressed in a format called ZIP. ZIP files are much smaller and can, thus, be transferred online much faster. In order to use a program that has been compressed, you will need a utility that will expand it back up to its original size. There are many utilities on the market that can do that, but the easiest to use is WinZip. It's a relatively small and very easy to use program, and you'll find it indispensible the more time you spend downloading things from the net because a very large amount of downloaded files are compressed to allow shorter download times. 13. My web browser asks me if I want to save or open the file. What should I do?

When downloading a file, your web browser may ask you whether you want to save the file or open it from its current location. It is always recommended that you choose to save the file to a directory on your computer's hard drive. In this way you can reinstall the software at a later date without having to download it again. After the download is complete, you can install the software by double-clicking on the file.

14. I just downloaded and saved a file to my hard drive, but I forgot where it is. How can I find it?

This is a common problem and the solution is quite easy. Normally your web browser defaults to the same directory for every download, unless you manually changed it. An easy way to find out the download directory is to simply start another download and to note down your default download directory. You can also use Windows' Search function and typing in the name of the file you downloaded. Click on Start => Search
